Backyard Find
Yesterday, my sister and dad were putting up new fencing and also demolishing an addition to a detached garage/shed. Two bottles were unearthed. One was Sawyers Crystal Bluing. Dates to about 1880, so yes, my folks live in an old house!

Renaissance Fever Subsided
After about 15 years and 60+ pounds weight gain, I am finally ready to part with my almost finished Renaissance-style dress. I "volunteered" at the short-lived Maine Renaissance Faire and had the Ren bug for several years. It was a lot of fun and work while it lasted...and now this outfit and extra fabric is up for grabs.

Today is another frigid day at seven degrees so I am dressed warmly but not very creatively! Today's outfit is composed of a white turtleneck under a teal striped 1/4 zip fleece pullover from Lands End, which I received as a Christmas gift. The Eddie Bauer jeans I purchased for $4 at a secondhand store called Matthew 25 Thrift Shop in Pennsylvania. Again, today I am wearing my teal Ugg boots. No jewelry save for my fitbit today.
So I forgot to ask Shawn to snap my pic so here are photos from the web:

Good morning! Day 2 of the clothing/makeup moratorium! Today's shirt is from Kut From the Cloth. I just bought it in mid-December 2013 so today is the first time I am wearing it! It is really blousy and has a busy print, so I thought I'd team it with straight leg jeans. I also added cute perforated sling-back leather shoes but ended up wearing teal Uggs since it is a bitter TEN degrees out today. I am happy to have done my nails last last night too now that I have finally stopped biting them. Glitter makes me happy! I am decided no jewelry to keep things simple. So all in all, I am pretty happy with this outfit. Fairly simple and thank goodness the jeans still fit.

After wearing this outfit most of the day, I can tell it's one I am going to bid adieu to! The dress is a hand-me-up from my younger sister. It's a medium and I am just too big, ahem, curvy, for it. I am afraid the buttons on front will spontaneously start popping open! I am wearing a slip underneath which keeps riding up and all in all, it's Too Much Work.
The sweater also doesn't quite fit. I thought it would hide some of the flaws of the dress, but the sweater has its own issues. The bottom hem is just too tight and accentuates my already out of shape stomach.
So tonight, these will go into the laundry bin, then donated once washed!

My 2014 Spending Diet - January 6th
I was so inspired by Krista Casey's "apparel diet" that I decided to do one as well. Krista decided that for one year, she would not purchase new clothing and shoes, instead focusing on purchasing items at secondhand stores. She documented her trials and tribulations on her blog, whose domain has unfortunately expired.
My mission: to not buy any new clothing, shoes or makeup for three months. I am allowed to buy underthings such as panties, bras, tights and scarves. No eyeshadow, foundation, powder or nail polish. Manicures are allowed since I am a nail biter and less likely to nibble if my nails are professionally done.
I figured a whole year would be too daunting. By the end of the quarter, I would evaluate my wardrobe, see what gaps I can fill and what can be purged. To jump start the process, I bagged up four trash bags full of clothing and yesterday, Shawn and I donated them. That feels good!
Attached is today's outfit. Dress and boots are from Target. Boots were on clearance for $10. Batwing sweater I bought late last year on Amazon. I am not crazy about how it accentuates my "I had two kids and don't work out stomach." I also am wearing a multi-strand beaded choker I received as a gift, which I normally wouldn't wear like this.
